Comedian and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ellie Taylor has responded with her trademark humour to those who have reacted negatively to her new role as host of It Takes Two.
The 42-year-old will return to the BBC One dance show to present a new look version of its spin-off programme, replacing Janette Manrara and Fleur East. Manrara confirmed her departure in June, and East reportedly left around the same time.
Ellie's Joyful Announcement
In a statement, Ellie said: "What a total joy to return to Strictly in this new role. I feel incredibly honoured to follow in the footsteps of the phenomenal line-up of hosts who’ve made Strictly – It Takes Two so loved over the years."
She added: "I can’t wait to immerse myself in all the gossip and sequins flying out of the ballroom in order to bring my fellow Strictly fans everything they need to know. I’m so excited, I could cha cha, but I won’t, don’t worry, no one needs to see that again."
Handling the Critics
While the news was met with positivity from many fans, Ellie noticed less favourable comments on the Instagram announcement. One comment described her as a "non funny person who has ruined every show she’s been on," referencing her presenting roles on Bake Off: The Professionals and The Great Pottery Throw Down, and asking if she was "married to a BBC higher up."
Ellie replied: "Haven’t done Sewing Bee yet but I’ll ask the hubs to put in a good word." To another comment hoping she wouldn't return to Radio 2 afternoons, she responded: "Thanks Dan! [heart emoji]." When a user hoped she'd be better than on Bake Off, she quipped: "I’ll just waltz in and do my own thing."
Support from Former Co-Stars
Many were thrilled by Ellie's signing, including her former Strictly co-stars. She was eliminated eighth in Strictly in 2022, partnered by Johannes Radebe, who is now one of the main show’s new presenters alongside Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe.
Fans expressed their support, with comments like "I love this!! So many congrats @elliejanetaylor - you’re made for this role!!" and "Best choice of new presenter they have made so far." Another added: "Amazing! She's is hilarious and will bring the fun and chaos like when Claudia presented it."
