Andi Peters, a familiar face on ITV, has shared details about his life away from the cameras, including his childhood dream of becoming a pilot, a health ordeal with shingles, and his single relationship status.
Early Career and Original Plans
Peters began his career at the BBC in the late 1980s and has since appeared on programmes such as Lorraine, This Morning, Dancing on Ice, and Celebrity MasterChef. However, his initial ambition was different. He told The Independent: "I wanted to be a British Airways pilot. I wanted fly Boeing 747 planes. I get excited even now when I have to travel on one." He added: "I got into television when I was 18, so I didn't look down that road in any greater detail."
Health Scare with Shingles
In early 2020, Peters took sick leave from Good Morning Britain and Lorraine after contracting shingles, an infection causing a painful rash. After recovering, he said: "My 2020 has been ridiculous, it started with shingles for two weeks." He noted that his work team was supportive, and even Piers Morgan was worried. Peters expressed concerns about his immune system and susceptibility to coronavirus, saying: "Plus, we now know, being black and a man, you are more susceptible to it and you are a lot more at risk if you do catch it." However, Dr Hilary Jones reassured him, as Peters recounted: "Dr Hilary said because I had had shingles my immune system would be really strong at anything else because it had to be at its highest to get rid of the shingles. That was really comforting because I was so worried."
Relationship Status and Fitness
Peters keeps his personal life private, but in 2022 he confirmed on Loose Women that he is single. He said: "See, I'm single, so I just go by myself." He explained it is by choice, adding: "I'm really stingy. I only have to buy a drink for myself and nobody else. I quite enjoy just going by myself, just being completely in control, I don't have to ask anyone's permission." In 2016, he tweeted a picture of a sign reading "I'm single because I'm a superhero," with the caption: "Now that's a fact I like!"
Peters is known for his fitness, avoiding alcohol and working out regularly. He said: "I have protein shakes at least every day. I go to the gym, so my muscles are fatigued a lot, so the shakes help keep the muscles strong."
