Netflix's seven-part period drama East of Eden is now available to stream, with Florence Pugh starring as the iconic anti-heroine Cathy Ames in the adaptation of John Steinbeck's best-selling novel.
Alongside the Little Women star, the series features Challengers actor Mike Faist and Poor Things' Christopher Abbott as brothers Charles and Adam Trask. The show is based on Steinbeck's novel, which was previously made into a 1955 film directed by Elia Kazan, grandfather of Zoe Kazan, who is the creative force behind the latest Netflix production.
What is East of Eden about?
Set in the farmlands of the Salinas Valley in California in the early 1900s, East of Eden follows the lives of villainous Cathy and half-brothers Adam and Charles Trask. Both men carry traumas inherited from their father, which they pass on to the next generation, but Cathy's arrival sparks a twisted love triangle.
Ruthless and bold, Cathy does not apologise for going after what she wants, no matter the cost to others, leading to a saga that unfolds across two generations.
