The Howff Secret Supper Club, an underground dining venue in Dundee, has been named Best Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year at the Food Awards Scotland 2026. The award places it above Killie Crankie House in Pitlochry and Ozzy’s Fine Dining Restaurant in Nairn.
A hidden venue beneath Bank Street
The restaurant is tucked away below ground level on Dundee's Bank Street and cannot be seen or accessed from the street. It aims to give "real foodies" an unforgettable dining experience by moving away from traditional restaurant practices, offering guests "something novel and exciting within a relaxed and inviting space".
The Howff Secret Supper Club is open only on Friday and Saturday evenings, with a set starting time of 6:45pm each night. It serves a seasonal eight-course tasting menu for £95, with a "perfectly paired" wine flight costing £70. Both the menu and wine flight change every two months.
An immersive dining experience
Guests are led through the Howff Secret Supper Club's Cooking Academy and down a flight of stairs past its working basement kitchen before reaching the secret supper club dining room, where chefs explain the theme of the menu.
The current menu includes cornfed chicken with brioche, parfait, and butter, and oxtail with black garlic, aged parmesan, Champagne, and Madeira. Other courses feature monkfish with mussel mouclade, cauliflower, apple, and dill, as well as Balmoral venison with juniper and coffee.
According to the Howff Secret Supper Club's website, its chefs experiment with all of their dishes and aim to "steer away from the norm as often as possible". Each plate is presented uniquely and is packed with flavour, using locally sourced produce when possible.
Five-star review praise
A recent five-star review of the Howff Secret Supper Club on Google reads: "One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Period. All the dishes were incredible, cooked to perfection and perfectly sized. All sourced from local establishments and had excellent stories from the chef for each meal."
The review adds: "The wine pairings were fantastic, really complimented the meal and the chefs did a fantastic job of giving great backstories for each dish. If I could rate higher than five I definitely would. My only complaint is that I can't visit more often—which is a testament to just how good this restaurant is."
More details about the restaurant can be found on the Howff Secret Supper Club website.
