Dog on the Tyne returns to Newcastle Quayside for third year

Newcastle's answer to Crufts took over the Quayside on Saturday August 1 2026 as NE1's Dog on the Tyne returned for a third year. The event, billed as "a city centre pooch party", ran from 11am to 3pm with awards, fun and games, and Doggie Yoga.

Winners and highlights

Alfie Joey, a much-loved North East broadcaster and actor, served as MC and gave out awards. Competitions were open to all, and Doggie Yoga was a real highlight for many - although some four-legged friends struggled to sit still.

Toby on the Tyne and his owner Sarah won first place in the "Dog Most Like Owner" category. Zena, a Belgian Mali cross, took first place in the "Best Treat Catcher" category with Nichela Conway. Cassidy Keilty, aged 4, and her Golden Retriever Luna were highly commended in the Dog Most Like Owner category. King Charles Cavalier Duke tackled the obstacle course.
