Danny Dyer has dropped hints about returning to EastEnders as Mick Carter, with fans urging a comeback to coincide with Linda Carter's exit. Kellie Bright, who has played Linda for 13 years, recently confirmed she is leaving the BBC One soap, sparking speculation about how her character will bow out.
Mick and Linda's turbulent history
Linda arrived in Walford with Mick in 2013, taking over the Queen Vic. The couple became one of the Square's most iconic pairs, surviving affairs, trauma, and Linda's battle with alcoholism. They were torn apart in 2022 when Mick disappeared at sea while trying to save Linda after Janine Butcher drove her into the water. Those scenes marked Dyer's exit after nine years.
Fans call for a happy ending
With Linda's departure looming, many fans believe only a Mick return can provide a fitting conclusion. One Metro reader, Sarah, said: 'Mick better comeback as her leaving storyline.' Another, Emily, echoed: 'Bring Mick back for a while. Then they can leave together. That will be great. Something happy for a change.'
Dyer has previously joked about returning, telling the KISS Breakfast Radio Show ahead of the 40th anniversary: 'I've chucked it out there. I think I need to go back and save my wife Linda, who's now become a murderess.' In 2023, he quipped he could 'walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed.'
Door left open for a comeback
The golden rule in soap is that no body means a possible return. With bosses leaving the door open and Dyer seemingly keen, a Mick comeback could tie up a major loose end. A Janine return is also rumored for later this year, potentially setting the stage for Linda's exit and Mick's resurrection.
Linda has endured much since arriving on Albert Square. If anyone deserves a happy ending, it's her – reuniting with the love of her life and starting a new adventure together.
