Sunday's episode of Countryfile saw viewers share mixed reactions as the show focused on selecting the 12 winners of its photographic competition. Hosts John Craven and Charlotte Smith were joined by zoologist Megan McCubbin at WWT Slimbridge in Gloucestershire to judge the entries.
The chosen images will feature on a charity calendar for Children in Need. The theme for this year's competition was Signs of the Seasons, and last year's calendar raised £2.3 million.
Hosts admit difficulty
Due to the "crucial" decision, much of the episode was dedicated to the calendar and whittling down thousands of entries to just 12. The hosts admitted it was "so much harder" than they expected as they deliberated over each photo.
After the selection, John, 86, announced: "You can find a full list of all the photos we've chosen today and how to vote for them on the Countryfile website. Now all that's left is for you, our viewers, to decide the overall winner. The photo that will feature on the calendar's cover. The vote is now open!"
Viewer reactions
Some viewers took to social media to express their frustration. One wrote: "Had enough of this photo competition #countryfile!" Another commented: "Here we go again, the (ridiculously early) calendar competition!"
Others joked about the timing, with one viewer saying: "Do I have to get the tree down from the attic #countryfile." Meanwhile, some viewers shared positive comments, with one noting: "#countryfile Red Alert very nice" and another adding: "I love the bluebells photo. #countryfile!"
