Coronation Street: Gary Windass exit fears after police confession
Corrie fans fear Gary Windass exit after confession

Coronation Street fans are worried that Gary Windass could be leaving the cobbles after he turned up at the police station seemingly ready to confess his part in Theo Silverton's death.

In recent episodes, Sarah Platt was arrested and remanded in custody for the murder of Theo Silverton. Earlier this year, Sarah confronted the villain and struck him with a metal pipe, causing him to fall from scaffolding and die from his injuries. In a panic, Sarah turned to her ex Gary to help conceal the crime, and he agreed.

Since then, Sarah has confessed to the murder but has deliberately kept Gary out of her account, making no mention of his role as an accomplice.

Kit Green's ultimatum

This has left police officer Kit Green, who is in a relationship with Sarah, furious, as he is well aware that Gary was involved in the cover-up. Kit has been pushing for Gary's involvement to be acknowledged, hoping it could secure Sarah a reduced sentence by showing that Gary was the reason she failed to come forward.

Having obtained evidence from both Gary and Sarah's mobile phones, Kit confronted Gary with an ultimatum, warning him to hand himself in or face having the hidden weapon tracked down. He warned: "Confess or you're going away for a long, long time", setting a strict deadline.

Sunday's episode, now streaming on ITVX, saw Gary turn to Adam Barlow for legal guidance, with Adam urging him to come forward and tell the truth. Meanwhile, Bethany Platt visited Sarah in prison, filling her in on Kit's scheme. This prompted Sarah to contact Kit directly, demanding he abandon his plans, and a furious Kit swore to update Gary on the latest developments.

Cliffhanger confession

Things took a dramatic twist as the episode concluded with Gary arriving at the police station, apparently on the verge of a full confession. In a nail-biting cliffhanger, Gary told DS Lisa Swain he wanted to "tell the truth".

What Gary will reveal to DS Swain remains to be seen, along with whether it will have further consequences for Sarah or drag in Kit, who has no idea Gary is about to "spill all" at the station.

Taking to Twitter, now X, one viewer wrote: "If Gary goes down I hope he drags Kit down with him - It's not fair on Gary." Another posted: "If Gary gets punished for Sarah's crime I'm going to be fuming, it would be so s**t.." While a fellow soap fan added: "Oh Gary. I really hope this doesn't tie in with Jake having a big storyline coming up. We don't need another kid going off the rails because their dad is in prison. We don't need another kid going off the rails full stop. #Corrie."

Coronation Street airs tonight, Sunday 9 August, at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV X.
