The Clacton-on-Sea by-election will see a record 34 candidates on the ballot, including Nigel Farage and Count Binface. Polling day is Thursday, 13 August.
Why the by-election is happening
The by-election was triggered on 7 July when Reform UK leader Nigel Farage resigned as MP after pressure over unregistered donations. In a video statement, he said: “I have done nothing wrong. I have not broken the law in any way at all.” He accused the media of harassment and vowed to fight a “people versus the establishment” by-election.
Main parties stand aside
The main Westminster parties have decided not to stand against Reform in this contest, but 33 other candidates have put their names forward, setting a record for a British parliamentary election.
Constituency details
The constituency includes Clacton-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, and inland villages such as Tendring and Wix.
