Channel 4 News presenter Matt Frei apologised for bad language after a guest swore during a live segment on Wednesday night (August 12). The incident occurred while Frei was speaking with guests Kristin, Ally, Chris and Andrea, who were waiting for the full eclipse off the coast of Barcelona.
As the eclipse took place, one of the guests, clearly in awe of the sight, cried out an expletive. Frei quickly addressed the slip, saying: "I gather there was some swearing and I didn't hear it, but I apologise to our more sensitive viewers for that."
Eclipse reaches totality in the UK
The solar eclipse reached its totality in the UK at 7.10pm last night, with Brits gathering outdoors to view the phenomenon. For the first time since 1999, a partial solar eclipse was visible in the UK, with more than 90% of the sun obscured by the moon in certain regions.
While Brits witnessed a partial eclipse, Greenland, Iceland and Spain enjoyed a total eclipse, with the moon completely covering the sun.
Some viewers underwhelmed
Many Brits were delighted by the eclipse, but others expressed disappointment on social media, calling it "underwhelming." One person tweeted: "The eclipse from the UK was so underwhelming idk about you guys but in my area it was still way too sunny to tell." Another agreed: "Unless you had those special glasses the #eclipse in the UK was all a bit meh."
A third social media user commented: "They talked up that eclipse a bit too much in the UK didn't they. It was very underwhelming compared to 1999."
