Celebrity Traitors Fans Break Viewing Records as New Series Debuts

Celebrity Traitors returned to screens on October 1 for its highly anticipated second series, with Claudia Winkleman welcoming 21 new stars to the iconic castle. The launch episode brought in a staggering 8.9 million BBC viewers, almost 3 million more than last year's debut.

Richard E. Grant's Early Blunder

Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant were selected as Traitors and must deceive the remaining 19 Faithfuls, while a third Traitor's fate hangs in the balance. Minutes into the show, Richard E. Grant dropped a bombshell when Joe Lycett asked if he was a Faithful or a Traitor. The actor admitted he had been picked for the dark side, then tried to amend his statement by saying: "What's the point of being in the game if you're not?"

The unexpected blunder has already locked in fans for the new series. One wrote: "The Traitors gets better year after year. First Alan Carr, now Richard E. Grant." Another added: "What a great start to the Celebrity Traitors this evening. A lot of fun."

Fans Predict Another Winner

Last year's show saw Alan Carr take home the entire £100,000 charity jackpot after fooling everyone into believing he was a Faithful until the end. Many have already compared Richard E. Grant's tactics to Carr's winning behaviour.

One fan wrote: "Richard E. Grant the new Alan Carr of Celebrity Traitors? Definitely a winner now." Another agreed: "Richard is the worst Traitor since Alan Carr and he bloody won it."

Third Traitor Decision Looms

Fans are now waiting to find out who the third Traitor will be. At the end of the episode, journalist Amol Rajan and comedian James Acaster were chosen to plead their case to be selected. Both left lying in coffins, the contestant not chosen will be the first murdered contestant of the series.

Celebrity Traitors airs every Thursday and Friday at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
