Two major Casualty cast members have left the show ahead of the explosive anniversary episodes this year. While both feature in the upcoming landmark specials, they have since exited. However, they will be seen on screens for a while due to the advanced filming schedule.
Both Sammy Dobson, who plays Junior Doctor Nicole Piper, and Kirsty Mitchell, who is Advanced Clinical Practitioner Faith Cadogan in the show, have departed. Sammy joined the show in March 2024, while Kirsty has been a staple on the Holby wards since December 2019. Details of their exit storylines have yet to be revealed.
Source Confirms Departures
A source close to the show exclusively confirmed to Express.co.uk that the pair were no longer part of the cast of the long-running BBC medical drama. "Sammy didn't come back after the Christmas break, and Kirsty is more recent, but they are both gone," they said.
BBC declined to comment when contacted. Neither star's agent responded to a request for comment.
Kirsty Mitchell's Storylines
Both women have been at the heart of several explosive storylines during their time in the show. Kirsty's character only recently gave birth on screen to a little girl called Pearl after she went into premature labor at 30 weeks during dramatic circumstances in April 2026. She required an emergency breech delivery led by her best friend Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless).
Her relationship with paramedic husband, and Pearl's father, Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson), has also kept viewers glued to screens as they separated shortly before the birth. In her seven years on the show the character has also struggled with the tragic death of her first husband and a descent into drug addiction.
For her efforts she has been nominated for the Best Drama Star award at this year's Inside Soap Awards. She recently announced she will reprise the role of Mòrag Ladair for the game Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a part she first played in 2017.
Sammy Dobson's Storylines
Meanwhile Sammy's character arrived concealing the fact she was pregnant for her very first chaotic shift. It was later transpired she was a surrogate for a friend. Following the birth of the child she suffered a devastating mental health crisis, experiencing severe insomnia, delusions, and postpartum psychosis forcing colleagues to intervene as she struggled with her grip on reality.
She also had a relationship with nurse Ngozi Okoye (Adesuwa Oni) which hit major strain and ultimately ended when Ngozi relapsed into alcoholism, forcing a heartbroken Nicole to break things off.
Away from the show Newcastle native Sammy is also an acclaimed Stand-Up Comedian who has upcoming gigs in the Leeds Glee Club on August 7 and 8.
The Casualty anniversary episodes will air on BBC One on Saturday September 5.
