Queen Camilla has made the case for investing in a lightweight jacket before autumn, after stepping out in a practical olive-green layer while shopping in Ballater, near the Balmoral estate. She paired it with jeans for an off-duty look.
Barbour alternative with royal approval
While Camilla's exact jacket remains unidentified, a similar alternative from Barbour has been found. The Bedale design has the same practical, country-inspired feel, but its 6oz waxed cotton makes it more substantial for autumn showers and colder days.
The jacket features an oversized fit, contrasting cord collar, tartan lining, handwarmer pockets, rear vents and classic popper fastenings. Princess Catherine has repeatedly worn the heritage British brand over the years, giving this alternative a royal seal of approval.
Differences and styling
Camilla's jacket appears lighter and more streamlined, while the Bedale has a roomier silhouette and distinctive cord detailing. However, the overall olive-toned, off-duty look is remarkably similar.
The jacket can be thrown over jeans and a jumper for everyday wear, or layered over a knitted midi dress with boots. It is available in sizes 6 to 18, and comes in wine and dark green, alongside the brown-toned version pictured.
More affordable options
For a more affordable alternative, Nobody's Child has a khaki barn jacket at £145, which arguably comes even closer to Camilla's relaxed look. It features a similar lightweight finish and muted green shade, with a contrasting brown cord collar and cuffs. It is available in regular and petite lengths, with sizes ranging from XS to L.
New Look offers a dark khaki anorak at £39.99, which captures the same practical feel but with a sportier finish. The shower-resistant design is lined and features a drawstring hood, concealed zip, press-stud fastening and roomy front pockets. It comes in several colourways.
Barbour is renowned for its durable outerwear and timeless designs, making the Bedale jacket an investment piece meant to last for years rather than a single season.
