Caldicot Castle to Host Mabon Fire Feast

Mabon, a festival dedicated to fire-cooking and folklore, will return to Caldicot Castle for the second time, celebrating the autumn equinox across the weekend of September 25 to 27.

Four-Course Fire Feast and Chefs

The event kicks off with a four-course fire feast on the Friday night, cooked by Hang Fire BBQ’s Sam & Shauna. Chefs appearing throughout the weekend include Feast Pembrokeshire, Cai Ap Bryn (Games & Flames), Smokey Rebel, Leviathan pits featuring chef James Peck, Polly Baldwin from The Jolly Allotment, and more to be announced. The Smoke & Fire demonstration stage will be hosted by comedian Jayde Adams and Hang Fire BBQ’s Shauna Guinn.

Outdoor Dining and Entertainment

Chefs will be cooking outdoors around a central covered dining space and communal fire pits, with music and performers keeping people entertained. The Smoke & Fire demo stage will host fire chefs and producers sharing their expertise, and a series of food, fire, and folklore talks will take place in the castle grounds.

The event takes inspiration from traditional Mabon celebrations, when people gathered around fires to celebrate autumn and harvest. It is a unique combination of outdoor fire kitchens, chef demonstrations, food talks, artisan markets, music, and storytelling.

Organizers' Vision

Shauna Guinn of Hang Fire BBQ said: "We’re proud to have created Wales’ first ever festival dedicated to fire-cooking and folklore."

"We’re obviously hugely passionate about BBQ, but also really wanted an opportunity to bring together lots of the great people that we work with throughout the year for them to share their fantastic food, expertise and stories with our home crowd here in south Wales."

"This is our second Mabon, and we’re looking forward to working again with Street Food Circus to add their unique magic touch to the whole event experience and all our chefs and speakers on what’s promising to be a fascinating and inspiring programme," she said.

Street Food Circus is the event organiser behind other outdoor food festivals including Fantastic Fete at St Donat's Castle and Forest Feastival at Merthyr Mawr's Candleston Woods.

Founder of Street Food Circus Matt "The Hat" said: "We’ve welcomed thousands of families to our events across the summer all over south Wales, and this will be a fantastic way to wrap up our 2026 programme and celebrate the turning of the seasons."

"With Mabon, we’ve created a more grown-up experience, leaning into Welsh folklore to inspire our music and performances, bringing people together in celebration of fire, harvest and great food, and making the most of the incredible historic surroundings of Caldicot Castle," he said.
