Amy Dowden Marks 36th Birthday with Emotional Message to Fans
Amy Dowden's 36th Birthday Message Moves Strictly Stars

Amy Dowden, the Strictly Come Dancing professional, has told fans that every birthday is a privilege as she celebrated turning 36, with her co-stars left emotional by her heartfelt social media post. The Welsh dancer is preparing for her 10th series on the BBC show, which returns next month.

A Decade on Strictly

Amy, a four-time British national finalist and champion, joined Strictly in 2017, initially paired with comedian Brian Conley. She has since become one of the UK's highest-ranking Ballroom and Latin dancers.

In May 2023, Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer after finding a lump the day before her honeymoon with husband Benjamin Jones. She underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and made a surprise return to the dancefloor during the grand finale that year.

Health Journey and Comeback

In February 2024, doctors told Amy there was 'no evidence of disease,' and she returned to Strictly later that year with JB Gill, though she was forced to withdraw due to injury. Last year, she was paired with The Apprentice's Thomas Skinner, but they were the first couple eliminated.

Amy has since had a second mastectomy, which she confirmed was not to treat a new cancer.

Birthday Post and Support

On Instagram, Amy shared a video of herself lighting a birthday candle, captioning it: "Another birthday, and I’ll always say that every birthday is a privilege. Feeling so grateful after the most beautiful weekend spent with my loved ones, making memories and feeling very lucky to be surrounded by so much love."

She added: "And now, off to spend my birthday doing what I love most, dancing with my Strictly family! Couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate."

Her co-stars flooded the comments with well-wishes. Dianne Buswell wrote: "Happy birthday miss dowden, seeee you soon x." Gorka Márquez said: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY." Motsi Mabuse commented: "Happy bday xx." Fleur East, Neil Jones, and Michelle Tsiakkas also sent their love.
