Amy Dowden teases 'phenomenal' Strictly Icons Week return

Amy Dowden has teased a “phenomenal” live show as she prepares to return to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor this weekend. The BBC competition is set to air Icons Week on Saturday, 17 October.

Amy's excitement for Icons Week

During Wednesday’s (October 14) episode of It Takes Two with new host Ellie Taylor, viewers were given a sneak peek at the upcoming routine. In the pre-recorded clip, Welsh dancer Amy shared her excitement for the performance.

She said: “This week’s group number for Icons Week is Madonna.” As the professional dancers were seen rehearsing, Amy admitted the choreography was “very tough”, adding that her wrists were hurting from some of the moves. She went on: “I really think this Icon’s Week is going to be phenomenal.”

The likes of Lacey Turner, Dani Dyer, Will Best and Cach Mercer will be taking to the dancefloor dressed as their favourite Icons, while the professional dancers will be performing a Madonna number.

Delta Goodrem's injury and Amy's return

This comes after it was revealed Amy would be stepping in for Delta Goodrem, who has had to sit out the upcoming live show after suffering a rib injury. The BBC shared earlier this week: “Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing.

"In line with the rules of the show, Delta and Kai will receive a bye through to next week when it is hoped they will be able to dance again. We wish Delta the very best as she continues her recovery."

Delta added in her own statement that she was "gutted", saying: “I’m absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won’t be able to dance on Strictly this week. I’ve been loving every second of this experience, so having to sit this one out is heartbreaking - especially after the high of Saturday night.

"I cannot tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show. I’m going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I’ll be back on that dancefloor very soon. Thank you so much to everyone for all the love and support. It’s so appreciated. I’ll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines this week! Sending all my love, Delta xx."

Amy's return details

Amy was part of the first pairing to be eliminated from Strictly this year, alongside celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton. She’ll now be making her way back to the dancefloor though, with Delta’s dance partner Kai Widdrington.

Speaking about Delta’s absence this weekend, Lorraine Kelly and ITV guest Vogue Williams spoke about Amy’s return on Wednesday. When Lorraine asked Vogue about who would replace Delta and Kai’s performance slot this weekend, Vogue revealed: "Well, you'll be very happy with this. So it's Amy Dowden and Kai.

"But it's good to see her back, but she's going to be dancing with Kai, and supposedly to Dolly Parton's Jolene. I mean, that's going to be so good."

This was the second year in a row that Amy was the first to be eliminated out of Strictly, after her partnership with Thomas Skinner last year. Speaking about her elimination with Chris, she recently shared how “gutted” she was.

Speaking on It Takes Two, she said: “From the first day to dancing on Saturday night, [Chris] grew and grew and grew [in confidence] and I’m just gutted that we didn’t get the chance to continue.” She added: “I honestly think there was so much more to come.”
