Amanda Owen admitted her children were "absolutely bereft" as the family struggled to come to terms with the death of their beloved dog Chalky during an episode of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive & Kids. The Shepherdess fought back tears upon learning the devastating news.
Family Devastated by Chalky's Passing
Before the Owen family assembled to lay Chalky to rest, Amanda recalled: "It was really clear and obvious that Chalky was fading away." She went on: "When the children came running out of the house door saying that Chalky had passed away, they were absolutely bereft, and they knew it was coming, and I knew it was coming. But still, just to see her laid there, as peaceful as anything and still warm, it pulled at your heartstrings."
The episode, which aired on Channel 4 on Sunday, July 12, 2026, was a repeat from series 3. Amanda added: "No, she's had a good life."
Memories of Chalky
As Amanda and one of her daughters spoke fondly of Chalky, they recalled how the dog didn't "like normal dog food" but loved to eat cheese. Amanda noted: "You couldn't get over a dog like Chalky. We had her for 13 years, that's a long time, that's good innings."
Following Amanda and Clive's daughters creating a coffin for Chalky, the family came together to pay tribute. Their daughters wrote and read aloud a poem in Chalky's memory.
Clive Owen's Tribute
As Amanda fought back tears, Clive remarked: "Oh, it's good old Chalky. She's gone, but not forgotten. She's lived a great life, and she's been a great friend to us all. There she'll be, and we'll remember her there, won't we?" He added: "She couldn't have got a finer burial, could she?"
Social Media Outpouring
Amanda had turned to Instagram to announce the heartbreaking news, simply captioning a post: "Mourning #Chalky." Supporters flooded the post with sympathy. One fan wrote: "So sad when you lose a dog. Sending you love." Another added: "Sorry for your loss, Amanda, Clive, and family."
Our Farm Next Door is available to watch and stream on Channel 4.
