Zoe Saldaña on Longevity, Controversy, and Oscar Win

Zoe Saldaña, the highest-grossing actor of all time with films grossing over $15.46 billion globally, wants to live to 150. The 48-year-old star, known for roles in Avatar, Marvel, Star Trek, and Pirates of the Caribbean, discussed longevity, controversy, and her Oscar win in an interview at Selfridges in London.

Longevity and Skincare

Saldaña, a face of Lancôme Absolue Longevity MD, is deeply invested in longevity. She researches peptides, supplements like NMNs, and takes vitamin D, creatine, B vitamins, and electrolytes daily. She has also taken up weightlifting to aid muscle repair. "I would love, in my generation, to be able to afford some more years of living," she says, adding that the idea of reaching 150 excites her because "there's so much of this planet that I just want to continue to discover."

Box Office Crown

In January, Saldaña surpassed Scarlett Johansson as the top-grossing actor after Avatar: Fire and Ash added over $1.2 billion to her total. She began playing Neytiri in 2009, with three of five planned films released and the final slated for 2031. "It feels really good," she says. "As a Latino girl from Queens, it sends a strong message to all people who feel othered."

Oscar Win and Controversy

Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Oscars for her role in the Spanish-language musical crime thriller Emilia Pérez. The film faced criticism from trans and Mexican communities for its portrayal of a cartel leader transitioning. Saldaña says, "Sometimes it is important to stir things up, especially when it concerns conversations around women and female stories." She dedicated her Bafta to her trans nephew Eli, saying, "It takes a lot of courage and bravery."

Upcoming Projects

The third season of Lioness, starring Saldaña and Nicole Kidman, releases August 2. Saldaña is also filming Positano, a Netflix film directed by Daniel Roher and co-starring Matthew McConaughey. She reflects on her career longevity: "I have to play women who are real... who move the needle in a story."
