Nicholas Hoult plays a foodie who brings his date, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, to an exclusive restaurant on a remote island. Ralph Fiennes stars as the chef, who has prepared a tasting menu with a deadly twist: it is designed to punish his pretentious, elitist guests for destroying his passion for cooking. Described as a black comedy horror thriller, the film earned Golden Globe nominations for Fiennes and Taylor-Joy for their performances.
Men (12:50am)
Written and directed by Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina, 28 Years Later, and Warfare, this folk horror film stars Jessie Buckley as a widow who vacations in a village. She soon finds herself harassed by the odd men of the village, all played by Rory Kinnear. The film takes a surreal turn as the harassment escalates.
Both films received critical acclaim but flew under the radar for many viewers. This weekend offers a chance to catch them on free-to-air television.
