Doctor Who could be about to mix time streams with 007 as Peter Capaldi wants to step out of the Tardis and play the next James Bond villain. The Scottish star, who played the twelfth Doctor for four years between 2013 and 2017, is a huge fan of the British super spy series and has urged producers to give him a screen test to show off his badness.
Capaldi's Bond Villain Aspirations
Capaldi, 68, told the Daily Star: "I love James Bond. Who wouldn't want to be a villain - sit there stroking a cat saying nasty things while wearing a Nehru collar."
Bond producers are auditioning Daniel Craig's successor this summer, with Callum Turner and Harris Dickinson among the current favourites. Casting agents are also potentially looking for a new Doctor Who after the BBC confirmed the show will be off the air for an extended period and not expected to return until 2028.
Doctor Who Future
Current Time Lord Ncuti Gatwa regenerated into Billie Piper during the last season finale, leaving many fans believing a new Doctor will be hired. Attending the Silver Clef awards, Capaldi revealed who he'd like to see take over: "It's good when it's had a rest. It's become very big, the show I loved as a kid was this strange little thing that nobody cared for and it was magical and strange. I'd like it to be a more niche thing and see somebody that nobody knew, there are brilliant actors that nobody's heard of because they are off on theatre or doing indie films or TV shows that are not huge, or just on the cusp."
Beyond Doctor Who
Besides Doctor Who, Capaldi is also famed for playing Malcolm Tucker, the foul-mouthed Director of Communications in The Thick Of It. Over 20 years on, fans still ask him to swear at them in the street as Tucker. He quipped: "I do it free, I do it for the enjoyment."
