Peter Andre has offered a rare insight into his relationship with Katie Price for her brand new documentary series. The singer and former I'm A Celebrity star, 53, was married to Katie from 2005 until 2009 after the pair first met in the jungle on the ITV programme.
Andre's Statement on the Marriage
When approached to speak about the marriage and this chapter of his life, which features prominently in Katie's new documentary series, Andre provided a statement that appears on screen at the conclusion of episode three. Andre said: "I have chosen not to speak publicly about these matters out of love and respect for Junior and Princess. Today Katie and I maintain an amicable relationship in the interests of our children. I sincerely wish her happiness and peace for the future."
Katie's Reflections on Their Relationship
Reflecting on their time together following their jungle romance, Katie reveals in her new Sky documentary: "By the end of it I was smitten with him. Meeting Pete and being with Pete were the best times of my life, without a doubt." She further adds: "I had my prince, I knew I would be with him forever."
Tragically, however, forever amounted to just a few short years before the relationship collapsed. The couple had begun rowing over work commitments, while Peter also harboured suspicions that Katie had grown close to other men. For her part, Katie admits she found their agent Claire Powell "suffocating" at times and missed doing photoshoots as Jordan, preferring that to her new more clean-cut image with Peter.
The Breakup and Its Aftermath
Reflecting on the breakup in the documentary, which came abruptly and without any attempt at reconciliation, she describes it as "like a dagger in the heart", revealing she had no desire to separate. In the fourth episode, she adds: "For people looking in we were the perfect couple. But there were things that weren't right. It's all about communication and we didn't communicate, but we could have worked through it. We could have done, looking back. Can't turn the clock back now, it's weird."
Katie's New Chapter
Katie launched the series at the Sheffield Documentary Festival last month, declaring it marked the dawn of a fresh chapter in her life. At the time she said: "I am so proud, you know. I've got beautiful kids. I've still got an amazing family. There's not that many friends left for me, because I've learned that some of the friends are people I've needed to get rid of. But I am definitely the best version I've ever been of myself. It's like I've been in a washing machine and come out the other side with the experience and the knowledge, and I am at peace with myself. I feel like I'm starting my career again, and this is the start of my new career."
Despite currently being married to Lee Andrews, she also hinted to viewers that another marriage could be on the cards further down the line. She added: "What am I going to be like in 20 years? I should certainly look different, my face will be up here. How many more marriages? I don't know."
