Peaky Blinders Confirms Return of Two Familiar Faces

The BBC has confirmed that the new series of Peaky Blinders will feature the return of two familiar faces, alongside a host of new cast members. The upcoming season is set in the years after World War Two, focusing on the Shelby family's struggles in a rapidly changing Birmingham.

New Cast Additions Announced

Jamie Bell and Charlie Heaton lead the cast as Duke and Charles Shelby, respectively. The BBC has now revealed additional cast members, including Conleth Hill from Game of Thrones, Samuel Bottomley from California Schemin', Arturo Muselli from Gomorrah, and Daniel Monks from All Her Fault. Lucie Shorthouse from We Are Lady Parts, Eugene Collins from The Bay, and Cal O'Driscoll from Video Nasty are also joining the series.

Plot Details

The series is currently being filmed in and around Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham. The story picks up after World War Two, as the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest. The BBC synopsis states: "Having fought a violent war, much of it behind enemy lines, Charles Shelby is now embracing normality. He hasn’t seen his half-brother Duke in years. Charles severed all ties to the Peaky Blinders gang and the hedonistic Shelby lifestyle. But can you ever escape your own blood?"

The synopsis continues: "Duke and Charles Shelby find themselves in a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At the blood-soaked heart of the city are Duke Shelby’s Peaky Blinders: Eliot, Angelo, Frank, and Kezia Lee, with Ned Dennehy and Packy Lee both reprising their roles from the series and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man as Charlie Strong and Johnny Dogs respectively."

Character Details

Conleth Hill plays Clemmy Keeler, the fierce patriarch of the Keeler gangster family who rivals the Peaky Blinders’ ambitions. Cal O'Driscoll is Clemmy’s son, Aidan Keeler, and Daniel Monks is Detective Inspector Bell. Other cast members include Jessica Brown Findlay, known for Silo and The Flatshare, Lashana Lynch from No Time to Die, and Lucy Karczewski from Stereophonic.

Creator's Comments

Peaky Blinders creator and writer Steven Knight expressed his excitement about the new era, saying: "We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast." He added that moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 1950s is a thrilling development.

The new chapter of Peaky Blinders will premiere in the UK on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, and on Netflix across the rest of the world.
