From the moment the iconic Lady Marmalade kicks off the evening to the confetti-drenched finale, Moulin Rouge is a total feast for the senses. The theatre itself has been transformed with dazzling decor, including the famous golden windmill, creating an immersive experience that draws the audience into the world of the Moulin Rouge.
The story of the love affair between showgirl Satine and young songwriter Christian is engaging, but it's the spectacular staging and electrifying performances that truly elevate the production.
Standout Performances
With leading lady Verity Thompson off for the night, Ann Sophie stepped into the role of Satine and delivered a commanding performance. From her entrance to The Sparkling Diamond to vulnerable moments in Firework and Come What May, Sophie captivated the audience with her presence and vocal prowess.
Nate Landskroner as Christian was equally impressive, bringing a vulnerable confidence to the role. His vocals in numbers like Your Song and the Elephant Love Medley were top drawer, showcasing his range and skill.
Martin Dickinson covered the role of Harold Zidler, earning loud cheers from the Sunderland crowd for his exuberant performance. Jacob Kohli also shone as Toulouse, grabbing the opportunity with both hands.
Musical Highlights
One of the show's great successes is its creative mashups of popular songs, such as Only Girl in a Material World and Crazy Rolling. However, the standout number for many is El Tango De Roxanne, with its scintillating orchestrations and powerful delivery by Nate Landskroner.
