Meghan Markle has revealed that her daughter, Princess Lilibet, loves gymnastics – a hobby she shares with her cousin, Princess Charlotte. The Duchess made the comment while chatting to schoolchildren during an appearance in Nottingham with Prince Harry on Thursday 15 October.
Visit to Community Recording Studio
The couple visited the Community Recording Studio (CRS), a charity established in 1991 that provides young people with access to music and recording facilities. The Sussexes were greeted by fans lining the streets for their first joint appearance since returning to Britain.
Harry left Meghan to attend a private meeting with executives, where he heard how his $1.5 million donation to BBC Children in Need was supporting CRS. Meghan took part in a confidence-building workshop with children from a local school who were craft-making.
Meghan's words to children
The children were asked “When do you feel most yourselves?” One child mentioned hobbies such as gymnastics and crafting. Meghan replied: “My daughter’s doing gymnastics right now. She loves it.”
Meghan was also overheard telling another child: “Sometimes you have to remember to be kind to yourself. And remember to talk to ourselves as we talk to our best friends.” The Duchess gave out handwritten cards with inspirational paragraphs, according to PEOPLE.
Shared family interest
Princess Lilibet’s love of gymnastics is also shared by Princess Charlotte. At the Commonwealth Games in 2022, Tim Lawler, chief executive of SportsAid, said Charlotte had told him she loved the sport. He said: “She really, really loved seeing the swimming, but she’s interested in gymnastics, and while they’re trying lots of different sports at home, I understand, when I asked her about sport she answered very easily and said, ‘It’s gymnastics that I like,’” reports Hello! magazine.
Georgia Devon-Shelley, who hosted the session, spoke about Meghan’s interaction with the children, saying: “She was really engaging and incredibly kind and genuine. With anyone she met, even briefly in passing, she remembered their names.” She added: “They both gave everyone time and energy. This session was about building confidence, and that was certainly achieved.”
