Madame Tussauds London has temporarily relocated the wax figures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to the British Culture Capital Zone, ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's return to the UK later this month.
The figures now stand alongside other British icons, including Sir David Attenborough, Harry Kane and William Shakespeare. Harry is dressed in a navy suit, while Meghan wears a bright blue dress. Their outfits were designed to mirror an iconic photograph taken at The Endeavour Fund Awards on March 5, 2020, shortly before they officially stepped back as senior royals.
Figures Posed with Suitcases and Royal Guard
The Baker Street attraction has captured the pair with suitcases in their arms and posed next to Madame Tussauds London’s Royal Guard to welcome the Sussexes back to British soil.
Ali King, Head of Operations at Madame Tussauds London, said: “With the surprise news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are returning to UK shores, we wanted to mark the occasion at Madame Tussauds London.”
King added: “Dressed to impress, they’ll be joining an incredible line-up of British icons, from Sir David Attenborough and Harry Kane to William Shakespeare and many more, making it quite the star-studded British reunion!”
Sussexes' Return to Britain
Harry and Meghan are coming back to Britain later this month, six years after they left the country for a new life in America. The Sussexes will be making their home in a non-royal residence outside of London and have already enrolled Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in British schools. Archie, seven, and Lili, five, are expected to start at their new schools in early September.
The move is likely to spark debate about how the British public will react to the U-turn, given the criticism the Sussexes have levelled at the Royal Family and the monarchy. A YouGov poll last month found that only 22% of Britons see Meghan in a positive light, compared with 65% who hold an unfavourable opinion of the former actress, while 33% see Harry positively and 58% negatively.
According to The Telegraph and The Sun, which broke the story on Wednesday night, the Sussexes will retain their homes in Montecito, California, and Portugal, while the duchess will continue to run her lifestyle brand As Ever from their new base.
