Lorraine Kelly 'beyond excited' to discuss new novel at festival

Lorraine Kelly is set to appear at the Edinburgh Book Festival this weekend to talk about her latest book, a sequel to her best-selling debut novel.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, August 22, will take place at Venue T in the Scottish capital, where the ITV presenter will be interviewed by Scottish crime author Val McDermid about the inspiration behind her second book, The Island Secret.

A Return to Orkney

The novel, released in June 2026, is set on the island of Orkney, a place Lorraine has visited annually for over 40 years. The plot revisits the story of local islander Evie, whose life is turned upside down after an unexpected visitor appears.

Lorraine, 66, has a deep connection to Orkney, previously calling it her 'happy place' and serving as an official ambassador, co-hosting the opening ceremony for the International Island Games held on the archipelago.

Excitement and Fan Support

The Island Secret is a direct follow-up to her first novel, The Island Swimmer (2024), which reached No. 2 on the Sunday Times bestseller list.

Lorraine shared her excitement for the event on Monday evening in an Instagram post, writing: "See you Saturday! Being interviewed by the utterly fantastic legend @quineofcrime - beyond excited! @edbook fest #books #happy #reading."

Fans replied in the comments, with one writing: "Good luck, you'll be fantastic." A second added: "Yay lassie!" A third responded: "Awesome my friend!"

Tickets and Streaming

The event is in person but will also be available via live-stream. To attend either way, a ticket must be purchased. The live-stream events operate on a Pay What You Can basis to remain as accessible as possible, with donations supporting the future of the Book Festival and covering the cost of live streaming.

To attend Lorraine's event in person, full-price tickets cost £15.50. Discounted tickets at £14.50 are available for those over 60, and £10.50 for students, access bookers, members of the North Edinburgh neighbourhood scheme, and anyone under 30.
