Katherine Ryan: Harry encouraged my jokes about him

Comedian Katherine Ryan has spoken about meeting Prince Harry at a charity event, saying the Duke of Sussex encouraged her to continue making jokes about him. She described him as "so charming [and] so handsome" in person, and admitted he has long been a crush of hers.

Apology turned into encouragement

Ryan, 43, who had previously made several jokes about the Duke and his family, felt she needed to apologise to him. However, she claims he reassured her that he found the jokes funny and encouraged her to make more.

Speaking to Woman magazine, she said: "He was very cool and relaxed about that. He said, 'You're the one who tells jokes about me.' Meghan [Markle] wasn't there." At the time, Ryan said she believed Harry had been visiting the UK for a brief trip as King Charles faced health difficulties.

Crush 'lives on for sure'

When it was put to her that it was "a big coup" for Harry to recognise her, the comedian said he may have been briefed beforehand - but added that her crush on him "lives on for sure".

Previously discussing the moment on her Telling Everybody Everything podcast, Ryan gushed over his striking appearance, telling listeners he looked how she imagined him to look "but taller". "He has a lovely peaceful presence. He's so dutiful and beautiful," she continued. "He went all around the room, very confidently."

Harry and Meghan in the Cotswolds

Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, are thought to be living in the Cotswolds, a celebrity hotspot. The family have reportedly been spotted on a stroll in a park and enjoying a meal at a pub in Oxfordshire.

A pub insider said the couple were not treated differently by staff or other customers. "Everyone here gets the royal treatment - it doesn't matter who you are," they told The Sun. "We're lucky to get lots of different people visiting us, and everyone is treated like a local. When they visited, Harry and Meghan just acted like locals."

This comes after Cotswolds resident Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen issued a warning to Meghan about settling into the popular area. "I think she's going to need to be very genuine," he claimed. "I think that's the big moment here, is that the Cotswold folk can really sniff b******t, you know, they can really sniff when people aren't being who they are."

He also warned Meghan about the "really very steely females" who, he claims, won't extend a warm welcome unless she follows his guidance. "So I think the Duchess is going to need to not be too much about the airs and graces if she's going to be picking the kids up from the school gates," he added. "I wouldn't want to take them [other Cotswold mums] on, I wouldn't want to p**s them off, I can tell you now."
