In a recent episode of his podcast with fellow comedian Joe DeRosa, Joe Rogan shared his top two favourite film directors of all time. He expressed immense admiration for Robert Eggers, calling him his second-favourite director, before naming Quentin Tarantino as his number one.
Rogan's praise for Robert Eggers
Rogan said, “I’m a giant Robert Eggers fan, I think he f***ing murdered Nosferatu. I think it was the best vampire movie, by far, of all time... That guy knocks it out of the part A+ every movie... The Northman… f***… it was perfection, A+. He might be my favourite director of all time.”
Eggers, 43, has directed five films to date, all period pieces that explore the supernatural through the beliefs of their characters. Despite never winning an Oscar, Rogan insisted, “he knocks it out of the park every movie. Perfection.”
Tarantino remains on top
Rogan then revealed that only one director surpasses Eggers in his view: Quentin Tarantino, a friend and former podcast guest. He shared, “I think [Eggers] is my favourite director of all time, next to Tarantino. Tarantino’s always going to be No 1. He’s the undeniable peak of the mountain. Scorsese has some killers. But a bunch of those guys have some lemons. This is one of the reasons Tarantino is the GOAT, because he figured out how to have no lemons other than Death Proof.”
