Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Janette Manrara has announced she will join Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp in the world premiere of a new stage production called Affluenza. The show, written and directed by Andy Sandberg, is scheduled to open at Riverside Studios in London.
What is Affluenza about?
Set in the affluent Hamptons, the drama explores the aftermath of a teenager's drink-driving incident that leads to tragic consequences. At its core, the narrative questions whether extreme wealth can distort a person's moral compass.
The production's official description reads: "When a teen's drunken car ride ends in devastation, the verdict comes down to one question. Is it possible to be too affluent to know the difference between right and wrong?"
Janette's announcement
Janette, who most recently hosted Strictly spin-off It Takes Two, revealed her involvement on social media. She posted: "I can finally say that I will be joining the cast of the world premiere of AFFLUENZA at Riverside Studios in London."
She added: "I have always loved telling stories - through dance, movement and presenting. Now, I get to tell one in a whole new way... and this one is a conversation starter. New chapter. New challenges. Excited for what's to come."
Support from Strictly colleagues
Fans responded warmly to the announcement, with her husband and fellow Strictly professional Aljaž Škorjanec among those offering congratulations. He commented: "Proud doesn't describe it! Well done Bučka."
Janette also received supportive messages from Strictly colleagues including Gorka Márquez, Fleur East, Jowita Przystał, Dianne Buswell and Amy Dowden. Fleur East wrote: "So exciting! ! ! Congratulations," while Ashley Roberts added: "Yes sis!"
The production also tackles themes of privilege, inherited responsibility and justice, while examining America's legal framework. Its description continues: "Set in the ultra-wealthy Hamptons, the show explores themes of moral accountability, family legacy and the American justice system, while asking: 'Do any of us truly understand the cost and generational impact of privilege and opulence?'"
The role gives Janette the opportunity to take on a fresh creative challenge, moving beyond the dance floor and into the theatrical world alongside Schnapp.
