A homemade tomato pasta sauce can be quick and easy, according to a TikTok video by @mynonnafina, who shares Italian recipes passed down from her grandmother. The video, which has over 450,000 likes, demonstrates a sauce made with six tomatoes, two garlic cloves, three tablespoons of olive oil, basil, salt, and pepper.
Step-by-step method
The recipe begins by frying the garlic cloves in olive oil until golden. Then, add sliced tomatoes and cook for five minutes until they reduce slightly. Season with salt and pepper, and optionally add fresh chilli for heat. Stir and press the tomatoes until they form a “beautiful sauce.”
The grandmother in the video says: “I'm making a quick pasta with six tomatoes. It's very easy.” She also notes: “This is a quick sauce for when you don't have time. It's not a passata, that's different, they taste completely different.”
Finishing the dish
Stir in basil, add a splash of water to loosen the sauce, and if eating immediately, bring spaghetti to a boil. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes until the pasta is al dente. Transfer the spaghetti into the sauce and toss to combine. If dry, add pasta water until the desired consistency is reached. Serve with grated cheese.
Viewers reacted positively, with one commenting: “This looks so simple, and I bet it tastes incredible.” Another added: “Even I feel like I could make that, but I'll add some chicken or something to mine.”
