From Wednesday, July 15 to Monday, September 14, 2026, Newcastle and North Tyneside will host the Peter Rabbit: Tales on the Tyne art trail, featuring giant sculptures of the beloved character created by Beatrix Potter. The trail, presented by St Oswald's Hospice in partnership with Wild in Art, The World of Peter Rabbit, and Newcastle City Council, aims to raise funds for the hospice while celebrating its 40th birthday and the 160th anniversary of Beatrix Potter's birth.
Trail Details and Sculptures
The super-sized Peter Rabbit sculptures, each uniquely designed by artists from the region and beyond, will be placed alongside iconic landmarks across Newcastle and North Tyneside. A dedicated trail map and app will help participants navigate the free, inclusive art adventure, unlocking rewards and fun facts along the way. Following the public trail, the large statues will be auctioned off to raise vital funds for St Oswald's Hospice, which supports North East families with life-limiting conditions.
Previous Trails and Legacy
This is St Oswald's Hospice's fourth art trail, following the success of Great North Snowdogs in 2016, Elmer's Great North Parade in 2019, and Shaun on the Tyne in 2023. Peter Rabbit, who first appeared in Beatrix Potter's books in 1902, has sold over 150 million copies worldwide, making him one of the best-loved fictional characters. The trail offers a fun, family-friendly activity for locals and visitors alike.
