Culinary experts at Sift and Simmer recommend adding sesame seeds to the pan before cooking fried eggs to create a satisfying crunch and a nutty flavour. The seeds, a staple of Asian cookery, give the eggs a gloriously crispy base. Pair them with a drizzle of chilli oil to elevate the taste further, putting a tempting new spin on your usual breakfast or brunch.
How to Make Sesame Fried Eggs
You'll only require a handful of store cupboard basics for this recipe. Choose between white or black sesame seeds, or a combination of both. These eggs aren't solely suited to breakfast; they make a fantastic topping for a rice or noodle dish at dinner too.
Ingredients
- Two tablespoons of sesame seeds
- One teaspoon of vegetable oil
- Two large eggs
- Chilli oil (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
- Heat a frying pan over a low-medium temperature. Add the sesame seeds and toast for approximately 30 seconds, then drizzle the vegetable oil over them.
- Crack the eggs over the sesame seeds and cover the pan with a lid, leaving a small gap to allow steam to escape.
- Leave the eggs to cook for around four to five minutes, or adjust the timing to suit your preferred consistency.
- Once ready, carefully lift the eggs from the frying pan using a spatula.
- Transfer them to a plate and finish with a scattering of extra sesame seeds or a drizzle of chilli oil, seasoning with salt and pepper as desired.
