The episode opened with an ambulance rushing away from No. 6 Coronation Street. Ryan had discovered an unconscious Betsy on the kitchen floor. She was taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed she had suffered a stroke. Her mothers, Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain, kept a bedside vigil. After Betsy's condition seemed to stabilize, she suffered a second stroke.
Doctors determined the stroke was caused by a blood clot resulting from neck artery damage due to temporary loss of circulation. Betsy then revealed to Lisa that her boyfriend Dylan had strangled her during consensual sex, though both believed the pressure was minimal.
