Danny Murphy Provides Closure on Bob the Cat Saga
Former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy has finally given an update on the runaway cat named Bob, whose story captivated BBC World Cup fans. During Norway's match against Ivory Coast on June 30, Murphy bizarrely recounted how Bob jumped into a Royal Mail van and disappeared, sparking widespread curiosity.
Murphy, commentating for BBC, told Steve Bower: "Yeah he jumped in the back of a Royal Mail van and we lost him. Sad, really." The tale became a major talking point, overshadowing Erling Haaland's performance.
Bob's Return and Tragic End
Addressing the reaction during Spain vs Austria, Murphy confirmed Bob did come home after six or seven weeks but had turned feral. "Unfortunately he had gone feral and we couldn't reintegrate him in the home and he ended up living with my friend's parents in Preston," Murphy said. He added that Bob has since passed away, thanking those who messaged with concern.
Murphy noted the surprising level of interest: "Surprisingly there was a lot of interest... That was the life he had and now he has passed away, unfortunately."
Story Sparks Global Attention
The original story emerged when Oscar Bobb, Fulham midfielder, was substituted on for Norway in the 72nd minute, prompting Murphy's anecdote. The incident quickly went viral, with BBC fans demanding an update. Murphy's confirmation provides closure to the emotional rollercoaster that began with Bob's disappearance.
