Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne has delighted fans by sharing a throwback photo of himself with former co-star Alison King ahead of his return to television. The actor, known for playing Peter Barlow in the ITV soap filmed in Salford, posted the image on Instagram on Monday, August 24.
Throwback Photo Sparks Fan Reaction
The black and white photo showed Gascoyne and King, who plays Carla Connor, looking directly at the camera, both wearing sunglasses. The post also included several other pictures of Gascoyne from over the years, captioned: "Good times with some good people! Happy Monday all."
Fans quickly responded with enthusiasm. @katrinemoran_ said: "Slide two hitting us all in the feels. What a duo!!!" @jen_shaw88 commented: "I LOVE your onscreen chemistry with Ali. Carla and Peter will always be my favourite Corrie couple! The best TV duo!"
Gascoyne's Corrie History
Gascoyne was the seventh actor to take on the role of Ken Barlow's son, with the character first debuting on-screen in 1965 alongside his twin sister Susan. Gascoyne first appeared in the role in 2000 during the 40th anniversary live episode, left in 2003, returned briefly in 2007, and came back full-time in 2008.
He left again in 2014 but reprised the role in 2015 for two episodes following the funeral of Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride. He returned in 2016 and remained until his last exit in December 2023, when his character left Weatherfield after being involved in the death of serial killer Stephen Reid, which ended his relationship with Carla.
Upcoming TV Return
Gascoyne recently teased his return to TV in a new role, expected to star in the daytime drama The Northumbria Mysteries. The series, led by Robson Green, follows Joe Ruby, an ex-convict and gambler who teams up with Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell to solve crimes in the region.
Sharing a glimpse of his new work, Gascoyne posted a photo from filming alongside Robson and another of him being mic'd up in a pub, captioned: "I'm back – lots to catch up on…" His former on-screen partner Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, responded: "[heart emojis] So proud of you." Corrie's Ronnie Bailey actor Vinta Morgan commented: "My G," while Joe Duttine, who plays Tim Metcalfe, posted: "Ah.....there she is..."
