Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reunited in London for the European premiere of Practical Magic 2, celebrating the release of the sequel to their 1998 cult classic. The pair posed together on the red carpet in Leicester Square, with Bullock, 62, wearing a Givenchy strapless leopard-print dress and heels, while Kidman, 59, wore a shimmering silver Chanel gown with chain detailing and a slit.
Return of the Owens sisters
The actresses reprise their roles as the magical Owens sisters in the nostalgia-packed sequel, which is out on 11 September. The film follows the sisters as they battle to break the 300-year-old curse that dooms any man who falls in love with an Owens woman to an untimely death.
The official synopsis reads: “Starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, Practical Magic 2 returns to a world steeped in moonlit mischief and powerful ancestral magic, as the Owens sisters must confront the dark curse that threatens to unravel their family once and for all in a must-see cinematic event of fun, magic and mayhem.”
Star-studded cast and director
The sequel features an all-star cast, including Joey King, Maisie Williams, Dianne Wiest, and Stockard Channing, with Susanne Bier serving as director. Williams, known for Game of Thrones, plays Sally Owens’ daughter Antonia, while King stars as Kylie Owens. Channing returns as the eccentric Franny Owens, appearing on the red carpet for the first time in two years.
Reunion reflections
Bullock previously told Vogue: “Nicole and I hadn’t seen each other for decades with the exception of a run-in on a red carpet. But somehow we seamlessly stepped right back into these two sisters’ shoes like no time had passed at all.”
Kidman told PA: “It is so hard to get a film made, particularly with a budget that is decent, and to be able to do it together as women is kind of fantastic. That’s gratifying in itself, and hopefully it says something about the industry where you can do it.”
King told People Magazine of the “pressure” she felt stepping onto the set: “As fans of the original film myself … I feel like when you love something as much as we already love Practical Magic, there’s just massive responsibility of joining the team and wanting to do it justice.”
During the premiere, Bullock appeared to reveal a tattoo on her shoulder reading ‘L B’, believed to be a tribute to her loved ones, including her two children and late partner Bryan Randall, who died in 2023 at the age of 57. After the red carpet, the cast continued festivities at the Broadwick Soho hotel, gathering at the Flute, where Kidman was also spotted.
