Mississippi authorities have ruled out foul play in the death of a Delta State University student whose body was discovered on campus. The 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed was found near the pickleball courts on Monday, prompting the cancellation of the university’s centennial celebrations.
Despite social media rumours claiming Reed had suffered broken legs and other injuries inconsistent with suicide, the Bolivar County Coroner’s office confirmed that a preliminary examination found no signs of assault. Deputy Coroner Murray Roark stated he saw no broken limbs and expressed the opinion that the death was self-inflicted.
University police reiterated that there is no ongoing threat to the campus community. The investigation continues, with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation assisting, pending a full autopsy report. DSU President Dr. Dan Ennis expressed condolences to Reed’s family and emphasised that the campus remains safe.
