A shooting at South Carolina State University has left two people dead and another injured, prompting a campus lockdown. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, February 12, at a flat within the Hugine Suites student accommodation complex.
The Orangeburg campus was placed under lockdown at 9.15pm and remained secured for four hours. Students were instructed to stay indoors via an alert. Investigators are currently at the scene.
University authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the deceased or the condition of the injured individual. Friday's classes have been cancelled, and counselling services are being provided to students.
The campus remains on lockdown as the investigation continues.
