GCSE results 2026: Times for school and app release

Teenagers across the UK will receive their GCSE results on Thursday after sitting exams earlier this summer. For the first time this year, many students can access their grades online through the Education Record app.

School collection times

Schools can release results from 8am on Thursday, but the exact time depends on the school's arrangements. Each school sets its own collection times and will inform students when to arrive to pick up their envelopes.

Online results via the Education Record app

Results will be available online via the Education Record app at 11am. The app, announced by the Department for Education in January at a cost of £30m, provides a digital record for future use in education or employment applications. Schools using the app give pupils a QR code to link to their record. This follows a trial with 95,000 pupils in Manchester and the West Midlands last summer.

If you can't collect results

Students who are away, unwell, or unable to attend school or access the app can arrange in advance to receive results by email or post. Emails typically arrive on results day, while posted grades may take longer. Students may also nominate someone else to collect results, though that person usually needs a signed letter and photo ID. Arrangements vary between schools.
