An Ayrshire secondary school underwent a thorough evaluation during an unannounced visit by HM Inspectors of Education. Loudoun Academy, situated on Glasgow Road in Galston, achieved a 'satisfactory' grade in two quality indicators following the inspection conducted in February, with the results now made public.
Inspection Findings
The HM Inspectors' report highlighted that staff throughout the school and communication centre cultivated "positive and respectful relationships" with students, which contributed to a "calm and supportive" learning atmosphere. Additionally, the report noted that pupils develop essential skills for learning, life, and work through their accomplishments, supported by a "well-considered" array of clubs, activities, and trips.
Areas for Improvement
The report identified several areas requiring enhancement, which were discussed with the head teacher and a representative from East Ayrshire Council. Key recommendations include:
- Senior leaders should collaborate with staff to enhance their collective understanding of high-quality learning, teaching, and assessment.
- Improve the use of assessment information in planning lessons.
- Teachers need to provide students with more engaging and challenging learning experiences.
- School leaders and staff should better utilize data to plan interventions and strategies that raise attainment and achievement for all students, including through pupil equity funding.
Future Oversight
Caroline Craig, HM Inspector, stated: "We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection. East Ayrshire Council will inform parents/carers about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its schools."
