A busy stretch of the M8 motorway in Glasgow is set to close next month as drivers are warned to plan ahead.
Closure details
Drivers have been urged to plan their journeys ahead of essential works taking place over a full weekend next month. Amey, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, is carrying out major bridge jacking works on the M8 Woodside Viaducts between Junctions 18 and 16 as the motorway curves round the city centre.
The work means the eastbound M8 carriageway between Junctions 18 and 16 will face an extended closure during set periods, with signed diversion routes available.
Schedule
The first closure will begin at 10pm on Friday, September 4, and remain in place until 11am on Saturday, September 5. The same stretch will close again at 10pm on Saturday, September 5, reopening at 6am on Sunday, September 6.
A final closure is planned from 7pm on Sunday, September 6, until 6am on Monday, September 7. The westbound carriageway will remain open and operate as normal.
Impact and advice
The work involves jacking the two triangular crosshead bridge supports on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 Woodside Viaduct. It's part of essential maintenance needed to allow all four lanes of the eastbound M8 carriageway to fully reopen later in 2026.
Motorists have been urged to plan ahead and avoid travelling through this location during the extended overnight closures - planned by Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, bus operating companies and Glasgow City Council. Emergency vehicles have alternative travel plans made.
