Cartier and King's Foundation Launch Watchmaking Course

World famous jeweller Cartier has partnered with The King's Foundation to offer a new educational course at Dumfries House, near Cumnock. The programme, starting this September, aims to teach the next generation of artisans for the watchmaking industry.

New Postgraduate Programme

The King’s Foundation and Cartier: Decorative Métiers d’Art in Watchmaking is a bursary-funded postgraduate programme. It comprises five months of formal training and two months of project work, covering specialist skills such as enamelling techniques (champlevé and grisaille) and marquetry. The first cohort will present their projects in a final exhibition in Spring 2027.

Eligibility and Location

The fellowship is open to UK-based jewellery and watchmaking graduates, or emerging designers within their first three years of business. Students will be based at The King’s Foundation’s headquarters, Dumfries House, with residential experiences at Cartier’s Maison des Métiers d’Art in Switzerland. They will live on site at Dumfries House during their studies in Scotland.
