Punch the monkey, who captured hearts worldwide after being abandoned by his mother and rejected by his troop, has now become one of the most caring members of his zoo family. Six months on, an emotional update from his keepers has left fans in tears all over again.
Punch resides at Ichikawa City Zoo, where he was given a cuddly toy by his keepers after his mother left him shortly after birth. When introduced to the rest of the troop, the other monkeys refused to accept him, leaving him alone with his beloved soft companion, which he used as a shield for reassurance. Heartbreaking photos of the tiny primate cuddling his toy spread rapidly across social media, with thousands hoping he would find his place.
From Outcast to Protector
Rather than letting his tough start define him, Punch has blossomed into a caring figure. His keepers said he has taken it upon himself to look after younger monkeys struggling to settle in, offering them the warmth and companionship he once craved.
