An 18-year-old man on a 6,000-mile charity bike ride has been seriously injured in China. Dyfan Hughes, 18, and his friends Louis Dennis, 19, and James Thomas, 19, set off from Wrexham, in North Wales, 12 months ago, heading to Chiang Mai in Thailand.
Trio's charity mission
The trio, from Llangollen, want to raise £50,000 for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Tony Edge, the father of their friend Harrison, who died following a heart attack in 2024.
But on the morning of August 8, they posted that Dyfan had been involved in an accident in China, suffering head, neck and leg injuries. He is in a stable condition in hospital, North Wales Live reports.
Stable condition and recovery
In a Facebook message, the lads said: "We didn't expect to be making this post. Dyfan has been in an accident and we are currently in hospital. He has a head, neck and leg injury but he's stable and in one of the best places in the world for this kind of accident to get the best recovery out of him."
"We don't know what this means for the trip right now but one thing is for sure, we will stick together and when we arrive in Chiang Mai, Thailand it will be the 3 of us no matter how long it takes. We will give more updates in the next few days."
They have already raised more than £48,000 for the charity, making them well on their way to their final goal. People can continue to support them on this link.
