Teen Charged with Murder in Bolton Stabbing

A 17-year-old male has been formally charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old in a violent street attack in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

The victim, named by police as Alex Leonard, was discovered with critical injuries on Saturday evening. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene on Great Lever Road.

Murder Investigation Launched

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a murder investigation was immediately launched following the incident. A crime scene remained in place for forensic teams to conduct a thorough examination.

Detective Chief Inspector Alicia Smith of GMP's Major Incident Team is leading the investigation. "This is a truly devastating incident in which a young man has lost his life," she stated. "We are supporting his family at this unimaginably difficult time and our investigation is moving at pace."

Court Appearance Scheduled

The accused teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to his age, has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear before Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday.

In addition to the murder charge, he has also been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place.

A Community in Mourning

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Police have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance to concerned residents.

DCI Smith appealed for anyone with information to come forward: "We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any information that could assist our investigation, to please get in touch with police as soon as possible."
