A woman who stepped in to help her neighbour is now regretting it after being left stuck with the neighbour's dog and ignored calls and messages.
Last-Minute Favour
The woman, posting on Mumsnet, explained that her neighbour arrived last weekend 'visibly upset' after her mother was taken to hospital in Scotland. The neighbour was panicking about getting there and finding care for her dog.
The woman and her partner helped book a flight, and reluctantly agreed to look after the dog, but warned they were leaving on holiday on Friday evening.
Silence and Stress
On Monday, the neighbour texted to say her mum had died. By Wednesday, the woman asked about dog arrangements but got no response. On Thursday, she texted again and received a message from a relative saying the neighbour was 'very upset and isn’t in the right place to sort this out'.
The woman tried calling but it went to voicemail. She contacted boarding kennels with space, but the neighbour would need to provide payment details. Other neighbours refused to take the dog, and her parents wouldn't take more.
No Resolution
Still without a response, the woman sought advice online, saying: 'I’m so stressed. I know my neighbour has lost her mum but we are not missing our holiday.'
In the comments, 96% of Mumsnet users voted she was not being unreasonable to be annoyed. In a follow-up, she revealed: 'The dog is at the vet and they said they would scan and contact his owner if he has a chip. One of the receptionists recognised him so they know the owner is a customer. I’ve blocked my neighbour’s number so she can’t contact me to complain.'
