The old Manselton Primary School building in Swansea, which has been closed for 14 years, continues to be plagued by intruders. The school, which first opened in 1902, shut its doors in 2012 after being deemed in poor condition.
Since then, the Manor Street building has largely been forgotten. Residents have previously reported children entering with backpacks and leaving the next morning. More recently, urban explorers have gained entry to document the interior.
Planning and security updates
The last planning application for the site was validated in July 2024. Eton Property Group proposed internal and external alterations to create 51 residential flats. Councillor Peter Black provided an update: "We have had a number of complaints about intruders in the former school building recently and have referred these to the police."
An environment officer contacted one of the owners, who confirmed he would secure the building. The owner stated they are still carrying out planning-related tasks, noting the building is large and listed, adding layers to the process. An ecological survey and a meeting with the council's conservation officer have taken place. Councillor Black urged: "If anybody sees intruders in this building, please phone 999."
Police response
A South Wales Police spokesman said the last call regarding the building was on April 20, the third of three reports that month. Officers attended and issued several anti-social behaviour referral letters to youths involved. No further reports have been made since. Police continue to liaise with Swansea Council's environment department to ensure the building is checked and secured by its owner.
