Big Brother legend Reggie Bird has been rejected for yet another job, just weeks after being turned down for a role at Subway. The 52-year-old applied for a retail assistant position at Aldi on the Gold Coast and shared a screenshot of the rejection letter online.
The letter read: "Hi Regina, Thank you for applying for the position of retail assistant with Aldi. In this instance, we are writing to let you know that we have decided not to progress with your application."
Fans rally around Reggie
Reggie, a two-time Big Brother winner, admitted she was frustrated by the decision, joking that she would have been perfectly suited to working on the checkout. "Bugger... I would have been a great checkout chick. I'm great talking to people," she vented.
Fans quickly rallied around her, with several suggesting she seek help from organisations specialising in employment for people with disabilities. One follower wrote: "Go down the path of applying for jobs with the disability program. Wonderful people at the disability agency." Another said: "Have you tried job agencies who help people with disabilities find employment? Might be a better pathway." A third added: "Can't say you don't try Reggie, hopefully you'll find something."
Previous Subway rejection and health struggles
The Aldi rejection comes only weeks after Reggie revealed she had also been turned down for a job making sandwiches at Subway. "Bugger... I can't even get a job making sandwiches," she wrote at the time.
Reggie has previously spoken candidly about her struggles to find work despite making reality TV history by becoming the first contestant to win Big Brother twice, in 2003 and 2022. Appearing on the Mental As Anyone podcast in December 2024, she admitted: "I sort of feel like a failure." She added: "I'm starting to think, why doesn't anyone want to give me a job? I want to work and that starts to make you feel like... no one wants you."
Reggie has severe vision impairment caused by a rare degenerative eye disease and also lives with Usher syndrome, a genetic condition affecting hearing and vision. "I could answer phones. I'm good at talking to people," she previously said. Explaining the extent of her condition, she added: "I'm limited to what I can do because my eyes are so stuffed. I've now got nine degrees of pinhole vision, no peripheral vision and no night vision left. I only just see what's in front of me. It's like looking through a straw - that's how I explain it to people."
Determined to keep trying
Despite winning $250,000 across her two Big Brother victories, Reggie has faced financial struggles over the years. Now, after another unsuccessful application, the reality star remains determined to find a job and prove she still has plenty to offer in the workplace.
