Witnesses Describe Stabbing Horror as Woman Pleaded for Help in Baguley
Shocked residents have recounted the harrowing moments when a woman in her 30s was stabbed and desperately sought assistance from neighbours on a housing estate in Baguley, Greater Manchester. The incident occurred on Lulworth Gardens, a street typically described as quiet, where the victim was known as a friendly and chatty individual.
Emergency Response and Arrest
Emergency services rushed to the scene at approximately 8:30 am on January 27, following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics discovered the woman unresponsive and immediately attempted CPR. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the address. A significant police cordon was established around the neighbourhood, with a blue forensic tent erected outside a house on the square.
Greater Manchester Police have since launched a murder investigation, leading to the arrest of a 44-year-old man on suspicion of murder. The suspect remains in custody as inquiries continue. One father, preparing his son for school, held back tears as he described the scene from his window. "I was getting my son ready for school and I could see everything from the window," he told the Manchester Evening News. "She was screaming. She ran to her next door for help, I tried to shout out of my window and then I called the police. It was crazy."
He added that in his seven years residing on the estate, nothing of this nature had ever occurred, labelling the attack as "out of the blue." Another neighbour, living just a few doors away, expressed disbelief upon returning from taking her children to school to find police cordons and activity. "It's madness. All that happened in around 45 minutes or so," she said, noting she did not hear or see the incident but is "thinking of that poor person who this has happened to."
Tributes to a 'Lovely' Victim
Neighbours have paid heartfelt tributes to the victim, describing her as a "lovely person" who was always willing to engage in conversation, despite having broken English. One resident shared, "She was one of the loveliest people I'd ever met. She'd always stop for a chat, happy to talk to you." The neighbour added that the victim was known to be friendly with several people on the street, often offering big hugs.
Reflecting on the tragedy, the neighbour continued, "You see these things on the news and in the paper, but when it happens right at your doorstep, and to someone you know. You understand how devastating it can be." A passer-by also offered condolences, stating, "God bless her. That is awful, I'll have her in prayers tonight."

Superintendent Gayle Brister has reassured the public that there is believed to be no wider risk to the community, with specialist officers supporting the victim's family.
