Woman Critical After Clothes Catch Fire in Edinburgh

A woman is fighting for her life after her clothes caught fire on a street in Edinburgh, Scotland. Emergency services were called to the scene outside flats in the St Leonards district at around 12:10pm on Monday, 22 June 2026.

Woman Suffers Severe Injuries

The woman sustained severe injuries and was rushed to hospital by ambulance, where she remains in a critical condition. Footage viewed by the Daily Record, but deemed too upsetting to share, shows the woman writhing on the ground, frantically trying to remove her trousers as flames engulfed the lower half of her body.

Onlookers, including two Royal Mail employees, attempted to put out the fire by beating it with clothing and a blanket. Another woman ran towards them and doused the flames with water, but with little effect. The video ends with the woman lying on the pavement while locals continued their efforts to extinguish the fire.
